Travelogue I — Sydney Part (VI)
Back to Sydney — Exploring the City
Out on the street under a cloudless sky, my mood felt as bright as that deep blue above.

Last night’s plans fell apart. Yuling was buzzing with excitement, dreaming of a 6:00 am start to catch a ferry across the harbor to the zoo, or heading to the Blue Mountains. By the time we hit the street it was past 10—the early bird had long flown. I was thinking we’d just wander, spend the last of our cash on a good meal, then head home. But Yuling is always organized and refuses to waste a hard-won holiday (whoever marries this gal strikes gold). Traveling with her is always so bright—she’s like the clear blue sky and a bubbling spring, full of energy. Anyway, we decided on Darling Harbour first, then back to the Opera House for some photos. Off we bounced on our springy legs.

The shots above were taken along the way; below is Darling Harbour.

We sprinted around and my chocolate snack was long gone. We planned on Chinatown but I was starving—front and back practically stuck together. A pub had a chalkboard special: steak deal. So we went for it. Seemed like everyone ordered the same—guess locals love a bargain too, haha. I wolfed it down so fast there’s no photo evidence.

Fed and happy, we headed for the Opera House. En route, we lived like locals and took the train for one stop.

From the Opera House we made our way back to the hotel. Passing a park at lunchtime, we saw groups of office workers running wild like unleashed horses. Maybe it’s the workload—exercise helps relieve stress—and team runs build spirit. Perhaps due to the climate, Aussies seem slimmer than many other Westerners. The charging packs were a bit intimidating—I nearly got bowled over once. I’m not a fan of that attitude, to be honest.

We stepped into this church for a look. I’ve long wanted to experience the atmosphere. Inside felt peaceful; many were praying. Even by day, lit candles warmed the scene. Maybe only here can human scheming fade for a moment and the soul find a bit of calm.

Trip over, with one last twist at departure. What goes around comes around: I got grilled on arrival; on departure, Yuling was thoroughly searched. A customs officer politely explained it was a random check. I waited a full 20 minutes—those big bags of hers didn’t help!
The travel mood doesn’t need repeating—it’s all in the notes. Two takeaways: sore waist, aching back, cramping legs; and Yuling’s weight-loss plan will soon succeed. The girl is taken, by the way.
Final thoughts
At last, done. Six posts to cover a day and a half—could rival a K-drama stretching a shoehorn into a full episode. Maybe not the most “helpful,” but life is like strong tea; only by sipping slowly do you savor its richness. Thanks for reading. The Sydney chapter closes here.
