I'm not sure when the rumor started that the University of Sydney was a Harry Potter filming location. As a dedicated Harry Potter fan who has watched the films multiple times, I can confirm there are no scenes actually filmed here. While the university does share some similarities with Cambridge, it wouldn't make sense for directors to travel all the way to Australia to film at a Cambridge look-alike. This seems to be a pleasant misunderstanding - the University of Sydney was not actually a Harry Potter filming location.

If you've been to Cambridge, you won't be particularly amazed here - it feels somewhat modest compared to Cambridge's King's College. Nevertheless, it's still beautiful and absolutely worth visiting while in Sydney.

We spent quite a long time at the university, mainly trying to find good photo angles. With many tourists around, getting "clean" background shots often just requires patience and waiting.

Many areas inside the university are accessible, such as study rooms and lecture theaters, provided the doors are open and no classes or study sessions are in progress. The university has nine faculties and is quite large - as a tourist, it's neither possible nor necessary to explore it all.
