2023.01.13-01.17 Perth
D1. Flew from Adelaide to Perth—a long flight! When I landed, it was scorching hot, and the airport surroundings looked pretty rundown. Perth is different from cities in Australia's southeast corner; it has its own unique vibe, especially the architecture. Took the shuttle bus to the hotel, which was in a great location and run by Chinese owners, I think. As a foodie, of course I couldn’t miss the joy of hunting for good eats. I’d heard Corica, home of the famous apple strudel, is a Perth legend—couldn’t pass that up! Braved the blazing sun and walked for ages to find it. Not super expensive, but huge!
Still, I trust my appetite! Wandering the streets, I found Perth has tons of food options—lots of Korean restaurants too. In the evening, on D2, I signed up for a TastBugTour I found in a brochure. It was fun, but honestly not worth the $68.
The lavender wine was especially good!
Chocolate factory—chocolate everywhere, pure happiness!
My local friend from the Gold Coast knows how much I love ginger and insisted I try a ginger beer spider with ice cream—good call!
Back to the city, more street wandering.
Beautiful people, beautiful singing. D3: In the morning, I joined a tour to Fremantle, with a stop at Kings Park—coffee at the café there was excellent!

Entertaining myself! Heard Miss Mavel’s Swedish buffet is excellent—just happened to be near my hotel, so I went. So glad I did; I met the nicest lady there!
I was just taking food pics for myself, but the lady in black at the next table insisted on taking my photo—then we had a lovely chat! I barely touched the buffet, but before I knew it, she’d paid for my meal and insisted on treating me. We talked for over three hours, and she kept reminding me to stay safe and take care of myself. So sweet!
A German insisted I go on stage to sing “The Moon Represents My Heart.”

D4. Joined a tour—main highlights were The Pinnacles and Caversham Wildlife Park.
Finally saw a koala that wasn’t sleeping!
Lunch: bought half a small lobster at the lobster farm—so fresh!
Pinnacles Desert
First time sandboarding—thrilling and fun! Even more exciting was the 4WD ride up and down 3–4 story-high dunes—everyone in the car was screaming.
Back to the hotel at night to pack—broke a glass and cut my hand. D5: Had the receptionist book a taxi for 5am, but it didn’t arrive until almost 5:30 (after lots of reminders from the hotel staff). Nearly missed my flight! Got back to Canberra in the afternoon—finally finished my first solo trip. The magic of travel is that you never know who you’ll meet or what will happen next—everything is unknown.
