· The three-level exhibition halls are underground. While the building's exterior isn't particularly tall, its intricately carved structure leaves a lasting impression.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is located near the iconic Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay, about a 15-minute walk from either the Opera House or Sydney Tower. Established in 1874, it's one of Australia's three major art galleries and houses the country's finest art collections.

The gallery primarily features Australian artwork from various periods, along with works by Impressionist masters and Asian art. The 19th-century European art wing contains many exceptional pieces. Among its most notable works are Whistler's "Nocturne in Grey and Silver" and pieces by Impressionist masters including Picasso, Monet, and Toulouse-Lautrec.
