MYER Christmas Parade
About a month before Christmas each year, downtown Melbourne hosts a major Christmas parade, usually sponsored by one of the big corporations. In 2007, the main organizer was Coles MYER, Australia’s largest retail group, headquartered in Melbourne. I joined in just for the fun of it! The event takes place right outside MYER on Bourke Street Mall—the real heart of the city. (In Melbourne, I always feel like I lack a height advantage, especially in crowds like this...) The police were playing Scottish bagpipes! And actually, they were pretty good!
Adorable little girls in frilly dresses...
A group of “Gypsy girls,” each with their own style...
Motorcycles are just not my thing...
The Boy Scouts~
University band performance. The older kids didn’t look too happy~
But check out that little kid in the Santa hat—so much energy!
The kids’ themed show begins—here’s the “Toy Express” train engine:
The steam is real!
Rainbow Bridge
For some reason, there was a pirate...
Every little girl’s dream playhouse~
A giant cake box float drifts by...
Why is everyone facing the other direction?!
The Disney float
These marshals kept photobombing the camera!
Silly and awkward looks all around...
And to finish, let’s throw some confetti! (Sorry for the cleanup, city workers~)
Didn’t score a great viewpoint, and the photos aren’t the best—so let’s just enjoy the atmosphere!
