Spanning seven to eight decades, it's remarkable to think how challenging it must have been to construct a bridge over the ocean in the 1930s. The bridge serves as a crucial link between the north and south shores of Jackson Harbour, and along with the Sydney Opera House across the water, stands as a symbol of Sydney.
Australians compare the bridge's shape to an old-fashioned coat hanger - and looking at it, it really does resemble one! This nickname transforms this steel giant from something imposing into something endearing and approachable.
As you get closer to the bridge, you might notice tiny dots moving along its arch. Looking carefully, those are actually people climbing the bridge. After searching online, I learned that Sydney Bridge offers paid climbing experiences where tourists can reach the top of the arch. Unfortunately, since I was traveling with children, I didn't want to risk it, but if I had been alone, I would have definitely taken on this brave challenge.
Looking back from the bridge towards the Opera House side, with blue skies and towering skyscrapers, you see Australia's largest and most vibrant metropolis - Sydney.
