Travel Journal Supplement: Brisbane/Gold Coast, Autumn 2005
In my memory, Brisbane was sweltering at 37-38 degrees when I visited. The Virgin Blue aircraft struggled through thunderstorms to get there. Brisbane's streets were narrow but clean. During my days in Brisbane, the sky was an immaculately pure blue. Unlike Sydney, besides birds, you could see lizards brazenly strutting around catching flies on the streets. My friend told me about the Jacaranda - its one-month flowering period painting everything in purple. Walking quietly through UQ (University of Queensland) campus, those historic buildings and flowers everywhere gave me pure campus memories. I don't have any particular impressions of Gold Coast - this beach, claimed to be the world's second most beautiful, just seemed endless to me. There were many people playing beach volleyball on the sand, but beyond that, my memories have faded. University of Queensland
