[Australia] Impressions of Brisbane
Honestly, my impression of Brisbane was quite brief—that’s the biggest downside of group tours: no freedom. We only stayed five hours in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, even less than in Melbourne. Aside from a distant look at the Brisbane River from Kangaroo Point, we spent most of our time in South Bank Parklands.
The South Bank Parklands area hosted the 1988 World Expo, and was later redeveloped into this large riverside park next to the Brisbane River. Today, the only Expo relic left in the park is a wooden house donated by Nepal, decorated with all kinds of intricate fertility totem carvings. According to the guide, the scale of the 1988 Expo was nothing compared to the Shanghai World Expo. Hearing this, I smiled and thought: what public event hosted in China, especially an international one, *doesn’t* aim to be “bigger, higher, grander”?
The park is quite large and cleverly built right beside the river. How do you describe this scenery? After thinking it over, I decided “affinity” is the right word. Lying on the grass, walking under flower trellises, standing by the Brisbane River—it all feels so relaxing! The only stressful thing was being rushed for time.
