April Travels in Brisbane
87 Views

Taking advantage of a few days off during the Qingming Festival, I “escaped” solo from Shanghai to Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city. I flew with China Southern Airlines, which meant a transfer in Guangzhou. It’s about an 8-hour flight from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to Brisbane Airport.
Accommodation: Stayed at a colleague’s mother’s house; her whole family loves art, and the house is filled with paintings.
Weather: The weather in early April was wonderful—sunny every day. Even though it was autumn, it was still quite hot. Be sure to use sunscreen!

(This painting was done by my colleague’s mother—I really like it.) The sky and sea there are such a vivid blue; dogs and children happily chase each other on the beach; people and nature coexist harmoniously.
On this short trip, I mainly visited Brisbane’s suburbs and downtown, Bribie Island, National Park, Gold Coast, Kondalilla Falls, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, and Mooloolaba Beach.
Brisbane suburbs and city: The suburbs are very green and the streets are extremely clean. Downtown is more commercial, with famous sights like the University of Queensland, the Botanical Garden, Story Bridge, the Art Gallery, and South Bank. There’s also SunnyBank, where many Chinese people live. The Botanical Garden is huge—you could easily spend half a day there, then walk up the road to the hill for a panoramic view of Brisbane.
Bribie Island, Noosa, and Mooloolaba Beach: Facing the sea, with spring flowers blooming. It felt wonderful—the sand is so fine and soft, it’s a delight to walk on. With the sound of waves, white sailboats, and a paradise for surfers and swimmers.
Gold Coast is very famous, but my impression was just that it was hot and crowded. We went to the aquarium and saw a dolphin show, which was pretty good. Personally, I preferred the Sunshine Coast for its natural scenery and lack of crowds.
