First of all, it's very, very far - at least 1.5 hours by highway, it's basically the suburbs of Sydney's suburbs. The scenery is decent, but what makes it special are the walking trails and cable cars. Because it was so hot in January, the kids didn't want to walk the trails, so we only walked a short section where we saw statues and information about the old mining cars. There were many plant descriptions along the way, though unfortunately, we couldn't understand much of it.
It was crowded everywhere, with 40-minute to one-hour queues for each cable car and lift. If I had been alone, I definitely would have left instead of waiting in line. By the way, the Blue Mountains got their name because of the many eucalyptus trees planted there - when the eucalyptus oil evaporates in the sunlight, it creates a thin blue haze over the valley. This has absolutely nothing to do with Blue Mountain coffee!
