It's quite remote, usually requiring a guided tour to visit. The Blue Mountains got their name from the eucalyptus oil vapor released by the numerous eucalyptus trees, which appears blue when sunlight refracts through it.

The sun is very strong on the way there, but once you enter the mountains it becomes very cold and gloomy - even wearing a down jacket you can feel the chill. The most interesting part in the mountains is taking the cable car - you walk for a while, then take a cable car ride, alternating between the two.
