The Blue Mountains, located 65 kilometers west of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, is a famous tourist destination in the state. The name refers to a series of plateaus and mountain ranges. The mountains got their name from the blue haze that forms in the valleys, created by gases released from the abundant eucalyptus trees growing there.

Near Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, there are many remarkable rock formations, including the Three Sisters, Jenolan Caves, Wentworth Falls, and the Ruined Castle. The area is also famous for its rich Aboriginal cultural heritage. In 2000, the Greater Blue Mountains Area, comprising parts of the Blue Mountains range and surrounding regions, was listed as a World Heritage site.
